‘This is our home’: How to avoid the digital ads

“You’re not going to see an ad in a physical store that says, ‘This product is a safe and healthy alternative to cigarettes.'”
Digital ads are typically shorter, and are usually aimed at one or two demographics, she said.
They’re generally less costly to create, because they’re not a labor of love.
“They don’t need to be designed to be engaging or compelling, because the advertiser has to be able to reach people on their device or on their computer,” she said, adding that these types of ads have a long way to go to catch on in the real world.
“It’s important to make sure that the ads are being targeted to what you’re actually buying, not what you’d see if you went to a physical outlet,” Johnson said.
“I think this is where we need to make an effort to focus on, especially in a market like California where there’s a large amount of disposable income.
There’s a lot of disposable incomes that people have,” she added.
“People want to make money, but they also want to have their product or experience available to people that they care about.”
Digital ads aren’t the only way to get your product in front of a potential customer.
“There are also a lot more social channels that you can use to reach those consumers,” Johnson noted.
“Social media platforms, which have the capacity to reach thousands and thousands of people at a time, are also really great at getting people to make their decision.”

Some of the most effective digital advertising that I’ve seen was in places where the consumer had no idea what they were getting,” Johnson recalled.

A key point to remember when buying digital ads?
“You can use your phone to call your friend, your family, the office,” Johnson stressed.
“All you need is a mobile phone that can send a text message or send an email.”
