How to Buy Digital Ads and Get Rid of the Allergen Ads

In a new report, the National Association of Digital Advertisers (NADA) says that digital ads have a $50 billion dollar market cap, a 10% increase from 2013, and are “at risk of becoming an industry killer” in 2020.

The report comes just two weeks after the FDA released a draft rule that would require all digital ads to carry allergenic information.

The new report from the industry’s largest trade group comes just weeks after President Trump tweeted that the FDA should issue a final rule requiring all digital ad content to contain a warning.

“If the FDA approves the final rule that was just leaked, then the entire digital advertising industry will be put at risk,” said Nadya Khedery, senior vice president of public affairs and public affairs for the NADA, during a press conference with industry leaders on Wednesday.

Advertisers who use ads in the digital advertising space will also be required to display the phrase “Do Not Disturb” at the top and bottom of ads.NADI, which represents the largest group of digital ad vendors, said it will lobby for a final FDA rule on digital ads as early as March, but the timing of the rule is still unknown.

“We are hoping to see the final FDA ruling in March, and then get a rule on the website as early in 2019,” Khedary said.

The NADI report says the market is expected to grow from $100 billion in 2018 to $120 billion in 2020, an increase of 25%.

The report also says that while the digital ad industry is already “on track” to surpass the revenue from all digital advertising, the industry is “still in the early days.”

“It is too early to say whether the industry will continue to grow over the next several years, or if the industry needs to be diversified,” the report said.

“But if digital advertising does not make up a majority of advertising, it is an increasingly important industry that will be one of the driving forces for the industry going forward,” the NadI report concluded.
