That will give you a better idea of what is being advertised, says Chris Eubanks, managing director at the marketing firm Creative Marketing Institute.
“They’ll be looking for billboards with the words ‘suburban’ and ‘suburb’ in their ads.”
Advertisers want billboards that sell to both rural and suburban markets.
And they want them to appear in different places, Eubank says.
For example, if you’re looking for an ad that will advertise a new bar in an upscale suburb, it might show a billboard with the phrase “suburbs, sub-prime” or the slogan “sub-prime.”
The Advertisers Association of Greater Kansas City, which represents billboard companies, says that, in its view, any billboard that is less than $1 million should be considered a free advertising option for people who are looking to advertise on billboards for free.
“The billboard is designed to make money,” Eubats says.
“You can get a lot of money if you just have billboards for that amount of money.”
